Our second influencer is Abby Rae (@abbyraemodel). Lets get to know Abby!
Hi Abby!! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 14 years old, in the 8th grade, and am looking to explore veterinary science in high school. A lot of people think I live in the NYC area, but I’m actually not local. I’m a huge reader mainly of dystopian fantasy novels like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Maze Runner, Hunger Games, and Throne of Glass. I love spending time with my friends, have a useless amount of knowledge of Greek mythology, and have recently developed a binge watching problem ‘-)
How did you get into modeling?
When I was 9 years old I was scouted while on vacation in the Bahamas by someone from Ralph Lauren. Within a couple of months I was invited to my first shoot and fashion show with them. I really enjoyed modeling and from there got an agent so I could continue and the rest is history ‘-)
What is it like growing up in the age of social media?
It’s both good and bad. It allows me to stay connected with friends and has led to some job opportunities. However, it’s constant and something you’re always aware of … what’s being recorded and photographed and having to be aware of what is being shared. Sometimes you simply don’t want to be connected to everything and everyone. When I’m hanging out with friends sometimes I just want to be in the moment.
If you had a free day to do anything you want, what would you do?
I love hanging out with my friends! They are goofy and chill and make me laugh. Today was actually a free day because of the snowstorm, so I had a sleepover with my friend and we got
to hang out, talk, and binge watch Netflix 🙂
Do you like to stick to one style or mix it up?
I would say a little of both! I like comfortable and casual, but I also love to dress up … and sometimes I mix the two together … nothing like a party dress with a pair of Doc Martens.
What are three staples pieces you think every girl should have in their wardrobe?
I would have to say: 1) a nice newsboy hat – it’s perfect for a messy hair day as a stylish coverup, 2) a bomber jacket – I think it works well with many styles and can help pull an outfit together, and 3) a boot – because they’re comfortable and stylish and I really love boots – combat, riding, motorcycle – I love them all! A notable part of my wardrobe also includes seasonal/holiday headbands for every occasion – if you know me, you know what I’m talking about.
What has been your favorite campaign to shoot so far?
I’m torn to pick just one because each is unique in their own way. I generally love editorials because of the creativity of how individual stylists/photographers choose to tell a story. Overall, I have a soft spot for Ralph Lauren because I started with them, but loved having the opportunity to travel to Norway for J Crew. It was an amazing experience to travel to another country and meet the people, seeing firsthand the waterfall and fjords. However, I would probably have to say that I really loved my time with Justice. The crew was always fun and I got to work with the same group of models over many months and became close friends with many. I have often been at shoots by myself, so really enjoy when I’m working with others.
