Hooligans Celebrates | Audrey’s 1st Birthday

ALWAYS BE A UNICORN
We wanted Audrey’s party to be something we would remember for many years to come. As a long-time lover of unicorns it seemed like a perfect theme for us. I found inspiration from a gorgeous Vintage Unicorn party I found online and put my own twist on it. A lot of people wondered why I put so much effort into a first birthday, but aren’t parties for the parents too? We survived the first year and that deserves celebrating (especially when you survived the first 8 months with a sleep thief)
I hand cut all the unicorns from glitter card, traced the pattern onto the card and then cut around them all, very tedious and fiddly but I loved the finished look.
The feather decorations I found a great tutorial and handmade them myself. The flower vases were a fun little project I got some Ager jars from the Recycle Centre, painted them with Mint Tulip paint I had left from my dolls house then painted glue around the bottom rim and rolled in glitter left over from the feathers. You could paint any theme onto your jars and it’s a effective flower vase!
We wanted party food, which could be enjoyed by the adults and children. The food table included: Fruit kebabs, club sandwiches, cheese platter, plain popcorn, unicorn sugar cookies, cake, mini sausage rolls and pies and a cheese board! The Moet is very special and from our wedding. It fit in perfectly with the colour scheme and who doesn’t like a few cheeky bubbles? We also made a yummy non-alcoholic punch for the older kids and adults.
The ‘Top Secret’ recipe is: Tropical Just Juice (if you don’t have that mix pineapple, orange and apple juice) with ginger ale or beer, mint leaves and to give it a twist some berries. Serve with ice.
We chose to have our party at home, as it was best for Audrey with a familiar environment and she could go for a nap if needed. We set up heaps of toys outside from the local Toy Library (I’m sure you have one in your area if you’re in New Zealand) and the babies played with them outside in the sun. Lucky we have a pretty good view from our garden!
